Web Help Desk (WHD) provides security through Single Sign On (SSO) and uses encryption for its web interface and Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interface (API). Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) asset discovery and collection uses a secured connection that cannot be changed to an unsecured connection.

For embedded PostgreSQL databases, SolarWinds recommends using firewall protection. For external databases, you must use SSL encryption. Be aware that applying SSL encryption degrades database performance.
