SolarWinds VoIP and Network Quality Manager employs an intuitive wizard to guide your installation. The following procedure will complete your installation of SolarWinds VoIP and Network Quality Manager.

SolarWinds recommends that you back up your database before performing any upgrade.

  1. Log in as an administrator to the server you will use to monitor your IP SLA network.
  2. Launch the executable. You may need to run the executable as an administrator.
  3. If you are prompted to install requirements, click Install, and complete the installation, including a reboot, if required.
    • Downloading and installing the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 may take more than 20 minutes, depending on your existing system configuration.
    • If a reboot is required, after restart, click Install to resume installation, and click Next on the Welcome window.
  4. Confirm your evaluation registration by providing your E-mail Address, and click Continue.
  5. If you want to use the Orion Improvement Program to send anonymous data about your product usage to SolarWinds, click Yes, send data.
  6. Review the Welcome text, and click Next to continue.
  7. Select your preferred language. This selection can only be modified by uninstalling and reinstalling the product. Click Next.
  8. If the Setup Wizard detects that Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is not installed, select Suspend installation to manually install IIS, click Finish, quit setup, and install IIS.

The Orion Web Console requires that Microsoft IIS is installed on the SolarWinds VoIP and Network Quality Manager server. If you do not install IIS at this point, you must install IIS later, and configure a website for the Orion Web Console to use.

  9. If you agree, accept the license agreement, and click Next.
  10. To install to a destination folder other than the given default, click Browse, select an installation folder, and click OK.
  11. To evaluate SolarWinds VoIP and Network Quality Manager as soon as possible, complete the following steps.

For evaluation purposes, SolarWinds recommends the Express Install, unless you already have a SQL Server database that you want to use.

    1. Select Express Install, and click Next.
    2. Click Next on the Start Copying Files window.
    3. Click Finish to complete the installation wizard and exit.
  12. If you already have a SQL Server database that you want to use, complete the following steps.
    1. Select Advanced Install, and click Next.
    2. Click Next on the Start Copying Files window.
    3. Click Next on the Welcome to the Orion Configuration Wizard window.

If the Configuration Wizard does not start automatically, start Configuration Wizard in the SolarWinds Orion folder.

    4. Provide your SQL Server instance, select the appropriate authentication method, and click Next.

If you want to use SQL Server Authentication, provide an appropriate login and password.

The selected instance must support mixed‑mode or SQL authentication with strong passwords. For more information, see the Microsoft Developer Network about authentication modes.

    5. Specify your SQL Database Settings:
      • If you are creating a new database, select Create a new database, provide a name for the new database, and click Next.
      • If you are using an existing database, select Use an existing database, enter or select the database name, and click Next.

If you are using an existing database or SQL account, the user account must be assigned the db_owner database role.

    6. Specify the SQL server account for Orion:
      • If you want the polling engine and web console to use a new SQL account for accessing the database, select Create a new account, provide a new account name and confirmed password, and click Next.

If you are creating a new SQL account for use with SolarWinds VoIP and Network Quality Manager, the account must be assigned the securityadmin server role.

      • If you want the polling engine and web console to use an existing SQL account for accessing the database, select the existing account, enter the password, and click Next.
    7. Specify the website settings:
      • Provide the IP address of the server used for the web console.

Consider retaining the default IP address setting of All Unassigned, unless your environment requires the designation of a specific IP address for your Orion Web Console.

      • Specify both the port through which you want to access the Orion Web Console, and the volume and folder in which you want to install the web console files, and click Next.

If you specify any port other than 8787, the default port for evaluations, you must include that port in the URL used to access the web console. For example, if you specify an IP address of 192.168.0.3 and port 8080, the URL used to access the web console is http://192.168.0.3:8080.

      • If you are prompted to create a new directory, click Yes.
      • If you are prompted to create a new website, click Yes.

Choosing to overwrite an existing website will not result in the deletion of any previously applied custom SolarWinds NPM website settings.

    8. Confirm that the services you want to install are selected on the Service Settings window, and click Next.

If you are prompted to disable SNMP Trap Service, click Yes.

    9. Click Finish on the Completing the Orion Configuration Wizard dialog. The Orion Web Console will launch automatically.
