Export and import VNQM data

This article explains how to export and import data from one database to another.


All VNQM versions


  1. Connect to your database server with Database Manager.
  2. Select your database, and then click Database > Backup Database.
  3. Enter a description of the database backup.
  4. Enter a path or click Browse (…) and then navigate to backup filename. Click OK.
  5. Copy the newly created backup file to a folder on the new server.
    Note: The backup file is named after your database and given a .bak extension. For example, if you have a designated OrionDB as the name of your database, the backup is named OrionDB.bak.
  6. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager > Add Server.
  7. Select the name of the SQL instance from the SQL server list.
  8. Select the appropriate authentication type, and then click Connect to Database Server.
  9. Select your new server in the list, and then click Server > Connect to Server.
  10. Click Server > Restore Database.
  11. Enter the path to the database backup file on the server or click Browse (…) and then navigate to the location of the database backup file. Click OK.
  12. Close the Database Manager.
  13. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration and Auto-Discovery > Configuration Wizard.
  14. Specify the newly restored database in the Database Setup section of the wizard.
  15. When prompted, click Yes to use the existing database.
