vCenter 5.5 VMs display high latency with enormous values in VMAN

Updated: 3-7-2017

Overview

VMware vCenter 5.5 VMs displays enormous values for high latency through VMAN charts and graphs. This data is provided by VMware when polling vCenter 5.5 VMs. All other versions display latency in milliseconds. There is not a work-around for this issue at this time.

VMAN attempts to display this data in a suitable format for the data size, causing the value to display in years.

Important: Be advised, multiple counters and latency values may be affected by this issue.

For example, the following chart displays this data in years in VMAN.

The following image displays the enormous value In VMware vCenter.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter 5.5U2 +
  • VMAN all versions

Cause

The VMware APIs for 5.5U2+ VMs provide high latency information in years, not milliseconds. The data is correct but displayed in enormous values.

Resolution

Currently, SolarWinds does not have a workaround for this issue. When the VMWare APIs update, SolarWinds will revisit the issue. To verify the actual value for these enormous numbers, you can view the data in VMware vCenter.

Important: Be advised, multiple counters and latency values may be affected by this issue.
