Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when a gray screen displays with a progress bar and does not start Virtualization Manager.

This frequently occurs when the cache of Adobe Flash was corrupted or you are using Virtualization manager on a machine without internet access or behind a firewall which blocks content from fpdownload.adobe.com.

Environment

All VMan versions

Resolution

Notes:

  • Clear your browser's cache.

If the issue still occurs after clearing the cache, continue as follows:

  • Perform the steps listed under .
  • If the affected machine does not have access to the internet or is behind a firewall which blocks content from .
  • If you are using Virtualization Manager earlier than 6.x, continue with the instructions under to manually download the missing files and install them on the appliance.

Deleting the Flash cache

  1. Locate the Flash Cache directory on the computer:
    • On Chrome: C:\Users\[your_user_name]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\CacheWritableAdobeRoot\AssetCache\
    • On other browsers: C:\Users\[your_user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player\AssetCache\
  2. Locate a directory with a name similar to KEJLANMQ or ENK5KRX7, and then delete this directory.
Note: The directory names are randomly generated.
  3. Restart the browser, and then access the Virtualization Manager appliance.

After applying these steps, the login window should appear without problems.

Disabling the Flash cache

  1. Navigate to the following link:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html
  2. When the site is loaded and the Adobe Flash Player Settings Manager is displayed, deselect the Store common Flash components to reduce download times option.
  3. Refresh the Adobe web page to make sure that the settings are saved.
  4. Close all your browser windows, and then open the Virtualization Manager console.

After applying these steps, the login window should appear without problems.

Rebuilding the Flash cache

After being deleted, the Flash cache will be rebuilt automatically when Virtualization Manager is accessed. This does not happen on systems without internet connection or on systems without access to Adobe’s website. On these systems, the cache needs to be rebuilt manually.

To rebuild the Flash cache, continue with either of the following two options:

Option A:

  1. If you have disabled the Flash cache, re-enable it again.
  2. Access the Virtualization Manager Live Demo on http://virtualization.demo.solarwinds.com from a network where access to fpdownload.adobe.com is not blocked. Wait until the login dialog is displayed.
  3. The necessary files will be downloaded from Adobe’s website and cached in the computer.

After applying these steps, online access will no longer be required.

OR

Option B:

  1. If you have disabled the Flash cache, re-enable it again.
  2. On a different computer with access to Adobe’s servers, delete the Flash cache by following the steps listed under Deleting the Flash cache.
  3. Access the Virtualization Manager Live Demo on http://virtualization.demo.solarwinds.com using this computer.
  4. Locate the Flash Cache directory on the computer:
    • On Chrome: C:\Users\[your_user_name]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash\CacheWritableAdobeRoot\AssetCache\
    • On other browsers: C:\Users\[your_user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Player\AssetCache\
  5. Locate a directory with a name similar to KEJLANMQ or ENK5KRX7, and then delete any *.swz and *.heu files within the directory.
