Comparing the configuration of a VM over time, or comparing the configuration of two VMs can help you understand the historical changes of the virtual environment.

View the configuration changes of a single item

  1. Select an object on the search results page, and click Compare.
  2. Specify the begin and end date of the comparison, and click Go.

Compare the configuration of two objects

Multiple virtual machine or host comparisons help you understand changes, relationships, and similarities, such as parent-child relationships in cases of VM cloning, or similarly configured VMs, such as cluster members.

If you select two objects from the search results, the comparison is based on the last point when data was collected for each object.

View detailed configuration comparison by category

To view an attribute category in more detail, select the category on the Compare screen.

Click Show all fields, or Only show differences to concentrate on only the differences in configuration.
