Configure the scope of the alert

Table of contents
No headers

The scope specifies what data you analyze for the alert, and defines the importance of the alert. Here you can define the:

  • Severity
The priority of the alert. This can be informational, warning, or critical.
  • Item Type
The type of content the alert will analyze. This can be application, cluster, data store, host, or VM.
  • Search Query
The search term you use to retrieve the content the alert analyzes.
  • Evaluate on
The frequency with which the data is analyzed.

Every alert is evaluated as new data are collected by Virtualization Manager.

  • If the alert is evaluated based on performance data, the evaluation happens every time new performance data are collected (10 minutes by default).
  • If the alert is evaluated based on configuration data, the evaluation happens every time new configuration data are collected (12 hours by default).

Several alerts only consider configuration data in their evaluations, which do not change as frequently as performance data. Configure the Evaluate on setting of the alert to match the data the alert analyzes.
