Updated 04/24/2013

These release notes provide additional guidance for SolarWinds Virtualization Manager v5.1.1 Service Release.

You can no longer upgrade on Windows. All versions prior to v4.0 and all Windows versions of Virtualization Manager have entered the End-Of-Life (EOL) cycle. View the SolarWinds EOL Policy online.

SolarWinds provides a migration tool to help transition from both older virtual appliances and Windows installations to Virtualization Manager v5.0.x.

As of SolarWinds Virtualization Manager v5.0, the licensing restrictions have changed. If you have exceeded your license count or trial period, you will not be able to enable schedules or upgrade. However, you will be able to edit and save data sources.

Upgrading your Virtualization Manager Appliance

With upgrade of your virtual appliance with this Service Pack, SSL certificate configuration reverts to the default self-signed certificate. If you installed your own certificate, and you want to preserve it, follow these steps:

  1. Make a backup of server.xml (in /usr/share/tomcat-X/conf) under a different name (for example, server.xml_beforeupgrade).
  2. Following Rename your back server.xml and move it back into /usr/share/tomcat-X/conf, overwriting the default.

New Features and Improvements

SolarWinds Virtualization Manager v5.1.1 includes the following new features and improvements:

  • Updated WMI

Prerequisite steps are no longer required to setup WMI collections with Hyper-V or if you are running Windows-based VM guests.

  • Support for Storage Manager Target View

This release includes a link to the STM Target View for NetApp NFS exports.
