Issue

The upgrades cannot be installed on Virtualization Manager.

Resolution

Upgrade the appliance manually. You can perform the upgrade in one of the following two ways.

To upgrade manually using the simpler method:

  1. Mount the ISO image using a tool such as Total Commander or Virtual CloneDrive.
  2. Locate the file hyper9-veo-<version>.x86_64.rpm</version> for the master appliance, or hyper9-collector-<version>.x86_64.rpm</version> for the collector.
  3. Extract this file, and then use SCP to copy it to the appliance, to the /home/admin folder.
  4. Log in as admin via SSH.
  5. Type the command sudo rpm -U hyper9-veo-<version>.x86_64.rpm</version>.

To upgrade manually using the more complex method:

  1. Mount the ISO image using a tool such as Total Commander or Virtual CloneDrive.
  2. Extract all RPM packages from the "package-pool" folder, and then use SCP to copy them to the appliance, to the /home/admin folder.
  3. Log in as admin via SSH.
  4. Type cd /home/admin to switch to the folder where the RPM package is stored.
  5. Type the command sudo rpm -U -F *.rpm.
  6. Delete all RPMs from the appliance.

It is highly recommended that you create a snapshot before the manual upgrade. If you are unsure about the upgrade procedure, please contact SolarWinds support.

Notes:

  • Some versions of Virtualization Manager involve upgrades of other libraries. In version 6.0.1, this method will upgrade your appliance, but your CentOS security updates will not be installed this way. Consult with SolarWinds support to check whether the manual upgrade will work in your case.
  • If you perform a manual upgrade, and then later want to upgrade the appliance to a later version using the .iso file, the upgrade may not work. For the upgrades to work, the packages you installed manually must be of the same version as the packages contained in the .iso upgrade.
