Issue

You want to set up Virtualization Manager to send the syslog file to a remote server, for example, to Orion.

Resolution

To send the syslog file to a remote server:

  1. Log on to the Virtualization Manager appliance through SSH as an admin user.
  2. Type $ sudo bash.
  3. Navigate to /etc/syslog.conf, and then edit the file. Modify the line

    *.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none    /var/log/messages

    to

    *.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none    @syslogReceivedIP  /var/log/messages

where @syslogReceivedIP is the IP address of the server where you want to send the syslog message from the Virtualization Manager server.

  4. Restart the syslog service by entering the following: /sbin/service syslog restart.
  5. To send a test message, enter the following command: logger -p local1.info "Test message from the VMan server".
