Migration wizard disables the integration of the Orion server and VMAN appliance after you change the polling method

Updated: August 31, 2017

Overview

The Migration wizard disables the integration of the Orion server and VMAN appliance after you change the polling method.

Environment

  • VMAN 8.0

Cause

You must use the Migration wizard in order to move polling from the VMAN appliance to VMAN Orion and remove the appliance.

Resolution

  1. Make sure the primary license is applied on the Orion server.

You need to do this in order to keep VMAN Orion polling running after the migration finishes.

    1. Deactivate licenses on the Orion server and VMAN appliance.
    2. Activate primary license on the Orion server.
    3. If you still need the appliance, activate the secondary license on the VMAN appliance.
  2. Run the Migration wizard.

This will move all polling from the VMAN appliance to VMAN Orion and disable the integration at the end. Integration is not needed any more because all polling will be processed by VMAN Orion.

  3. If the VMAN appliance needs to keep running and collecting data, integrate it with VMAN Orion again.

This will keep the VMAN appliance licensed and running.

  4. If you do not need the VMAN appliance any more, switch it off.

In case you want to keep the VMAN appliance running, but you don't want to lose your historical data, increase the Active to Stale Interval and Stale to Decommissioned Interval settings in the VMAN appliance to 100 000, so old data are not decommissioned.
