VMAN and VIM 7.0 Recommendations Engine issues when installing APE or AWS

Updated: 17th February, 2017

You may encounter issues when attempting to install an Additional Polling Engine or Additional Web Server using the Bundle from the Customer Portal for Virtual Infrastructure Monitor (VIM) 7.0 or Orion Platforms with VIM 7.0 installed. You can verify the version of VIM in the footer of the Orion Web Console. When installed, the Recommendations engine for VIM, used by VMAN, does not install properly on the APE or AWS. To resolve, copy and run the SolarWinds Recommendations.msi file from the main polling engine on the Additional Polling Engine and Additional Web Server.

For more information on bundles, see Orion product installers for main poller, additional polling engine, additional web servers, and HA.

When this issue occurs the SolarWinds Information Service v3.0 on the APE/AWS will show the below error in the Orion.InformationService.log logs (located in C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\InformationService\v3.0 by default)

2017-01-04 11:13:39,160 [4] ERROR SolarWinds.InformationService.Core.SchemaLoader - (null) (null) Unknown error resolving schemas

  • Orion Platform 2016.2 or later with VIM 7.0
  • VMAN 7.0 integrated
  • Additional Polling Engine bundle installer
  • Additional Web Server bundle installer

The Recommendations Engine does not deploy correctly when running the bundle installers on Additional Polling Engines or Additional Web Server. You may receive an error after completing the installation with the bundle.

  1. On the main polling engine, locate and copy the SolarWinds Recommendations.msi file. This file is located in  c:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Installers\.
  2. Copy the file to your Additional Polling Engine server and Additional Web Server.
  3. Run the msi file as your installer.
