VMAN Hyper-V hosts in Unknown status and aren't polled after licensing and polling methods are changed

Updated September 28, 2018

Overview

In rare cases, when a host's polling method and licensing tier changes, a Hyper-V host can end up in an "Unknown" state, and the Hyper-V host is excluded from polling.

Symptoms:

  • Affected Hyper-V hosts aren't polled and new performance statistics polls aren't populated in the Orion database.
  • In the Orion database, affected hosts have HostStatus=0
  • Under Settings → Virtualization Settings → Hyper-V Settings, affected hosts show as "Unknown"

Environment

  • VMAN all current versions

Cause

The cause is currently unknown.

Resolution

  • Open the Orion Database Manager.
  • Open a new query tab against your Orion database.
  • Execute the following query:
UPDATE VIM_Hosts SET HostStatus=2 WHERE HostStatus=0
