WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Option to add a Vcenter instance or HyperV host missing from VMAN

Updated April 19th, 2016

Overview

This article addresses the issue where the option to add an instance of data source for a Vcenter, ESX or HyperV hosts is not available in the Data sources section of the VMAN application console.

Environment

VMAN 6 and later

Cause

This occurs when credentials have not been added to VMAN for a Vcenter service account, ESX root account or HyperV host.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the VMAM application console.
  2. Go to Setup > Credentials.
  3. Add a credential for the Data source that you plan to monitor with VMAN. Tthis could be a Vcenter, ESX or HyperV host.
  4. Go to Setup > Data sources. The option will now be available.
  5. Verify that the collection jobs under the 'Collection Schedules' are enabled.
