CPU does not support long mode. Use a 32bit distribution

Overview

The following error appears when the appliance is started:

Your CPU does not support longmode. Use a 32bit distribution.

Environment

All VMAN versions

Cause

This occurs when the appliance is installed on a host machine that contains a processor that does not support AMD-V or Intel VT-x hardware virtualization, or does not have hardware virtualization enabled in the BIOS.

You cannot start the appliance until you take corrective action to enable hardware virtualization on the host machine.

Resolution

  • Use a host machine that is compatible with ESX 3.5 or later.
  • Intel-based motherboards may have the hardware virtualization turned off by default. Enable this option in the host BIOS. Refer to Enabling Intel VT and AMD-V virtualization hardware extensions in BIOS.
Note: If you are unable to find the option in your host machine BIOS, consult your system vendor.
