All Active Virtualization alerts error: A query to the SolarWinds Information Service failed

Updated November 28, 2016

Overview

When viewing the All Active Virtualization alerts resource with an account with a Alert Limitation Category applied the following error occurs:

Error: A query to the SolarWinds Information Service failed.

Environment

  • VIM 7.0
  • VMan 7.0 Integration

Cause

There is an incorrect query in the alert resource.

Resolution

  1. Backup C:\inetpub\SolarWinds\Orion\VIM\Resources\Summary\AllAlerts.ascx.cs
  2. Edit C:\inetpub\SolarWinds\Orion\VIM\Resources\Summary\AllAlerts.ascx.cs with Notepad or similar.
  3. Find:

    WHEN 1 THEN 'Warning.png'
    WHEN 2 THEN 'Critical.png'
    WHEN 3 THEN 'Serious.png'
    END AS [_IconFor_Name],

    Change this to:
    WHEN 1 THEN 'Warning.png'
    WHEN 2 THEN 'Critical.png'
    WHEN 3 THEN 'Serious.png'
    ELSE ''
    END AS [_IconFor_Name],

  4. Try to browse to the page with the resource on it.

Note: The reload may take some time as after the change is done, IIS will need to recompile the website.
