Watch this short video to learn about using Virtualization Manager recommendations to quickly fix performance issues and optimize your virtual environment.
See below for the video transcript.
SolarWinds® Virtualization Manager provides recommendations, utilizing built-in management actions or actionable intelligence. Recommendations help you quickly resolve active performance issues to optimize your virtual environment, now and in the future.
To access recommendations, use the Virtual Summary screen or the drop down menu.
By default, the recommendations engine is turned on and all strategies are enabled.
Available options include: VM sizing, host performance, storage capacity, and workload balancing.
Policies or exclusions can also be created or deleted to remove a VM or host from recommendations.
Recommendations are sorted, and can be filtered, by clusters/hosts, type, severity, and strategies. Severity thresholds can be changed globally or per VM- or node-level by going to Settings, All Settings, Virtualization Settings, and selecting either Virtualization Global Thresholds or Virtualization Thresholds, to configure node-by-node.
If you return to the All Recommendations view, you can open a recommendation by clicking on it. Details include the alert or alerts to be resolved, as well as steps performed.
The statistics tab will present performance data for the VM and connected infrastructure. Perform Now is the default selection.
Schedule a Recommendation allows scheduling for non-peak hours or during a maintenance window. When a recommendation is scheduled, it is removed from the Current tab and moved to the Scheduled tab.
Active recommendations will start populating on your dashboard after only one hour of logged performance data. These recommendations show your virtual environment's active performance issues. They easily can be viewed via the NOWicon, and will appear at the top of each severity type.
Predictive recommendations will be generated after one week's worth of performance data have been logged. Four weeks of data will provide optimal and more precise recommendation predictions. These predictions are sorted and categorized by severity, and provide outage dates or wasted VM sprawl resources. Executing on the recommendations will help to prevent future performance issues across your virtual environment.
Low severity alerts include recommendations to balance workloads across your host. Unlike traditional balancing software, historical pattern data, as well as current performance, are utilized, preventing unnecessary VM movement and resource availability when predicted usage spikes occur.
