Webinar: Web Help Desk for HR, Facilities and Accounting Departments
This webinar will focus on use cases for HR, Facilities and Accounting.

Having a unified ticketing and asset management system for all the departments in your company can provide end-users with a seamless experience and make things easier for your IT team. Yet, with different business tasks and objectives, many departments don’t fully understand the capabilities of Web Help Desk and how the software can be customized for effective use in their departments.

Before you install SolarWinds SRM in a production environment, size your environment to ensure that the system has enough capability to meet your monitoring needs.

If you are installing an evaluation copy of SRM, see Install an evaluation copy of SolarWinds SRM.

Server sizing depends on:

  • Number of monitored storage objects: an object can be a storage array, storage pool, LUN, volume, Vserver, or file share
  • Polling frequency: SolarWinds SRM regularly polls devices to collect data and determine status. If you decide to collect performance statistics more often than the default 15 minutes, system requirements increase
  • Number of simultaneous users: Add 1 GB of RAM for every 25 simultaneous users

Requirements

Use the following table to size your SolarWinds SRM environment:

* If the server does not have IIS or .NET installed, the installation automatically installs and configures these components for you. If the server has Internet access, use the online version of the installation. If not, use the offline version.

** Each additional polling engine requires the same requirements as listed in the Windows Application Server (physical or virtual) column.

FIPS support

Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) defines security and interoperability standards for computers used by the U.S. Federal Government.

SRM is FIPS 140-2 compliant. For instructions, see Enable FIPS.

Virtual machine and application server requirements

Orion application server installations on VMware™ or Microsoft hosted virtual machines are supported. The virtual machine requirements are identical to the physical server requirements.
