SRM comes with a number of out-of-the-box alerts that have been created, based on best practices. These are enabled by default, so if there are problems with any monitored storage devices, alerts are displayed on the All Active Alerts on Storage Objects resource on the Storage Home page as soon as these triggering conditions are detected.

The image below shows two alerts. These indicate that storage pools aggr1 and aggr0 have less than 20% free space remaining.

In addition to displaying messages, you can associate alerts with actions so you can provide an immediate response to problems. These include:

  • Send emails or messages
  • Execute programs and scripts
  • Create ServiceNow Incidents
  • Log entries in logs or text files
  • Create custom properties

Emails can be tailored to contain information specific to the condition of the alert, sent to different recipients depending on time or date or other variables, and can be escalated if not responded to within a set time.

For complete information on adding actions to alerts, setting up repeating actions and escalations, and customizing actions for your specific environment, see Use alerts to monitor your environment in the NPM Administrator Guide.

To see more information about an alert, click on the alert name. This opens the Active Alert Details page, where you can:

  • View more information on the alert
  • Acknowledge the alert
  • Edit or turn off the alert

Acknowledging an alert stops any actions or escalations associated with the triggered alert.

To display all active alerts for all your Orion products:

  1. Navigate to Alerts & Activity > Alerts.
  2. Click Manage Alerts in the upperright corner opens the Alert Manager. Here you can view, enable, disable and manage all out-of-the-box and custom alerts.

If you Group by Object Type using the drop-down menu in the left column, you can see the alerts already set up for Storage Arrays, LUNs, Pools, and other storage objects.
