SRM: Enable an EMC VNX NAS Gateway / Celerra SMI-S array

Updated 2/11/16

Overview

The article contains information on enabling the EMC VNX NAS Gateway / Celerra SMI-S arrays to be monitored by SRM.

For more information, please consult the documentation supplied with your array, or contact your vendor.

Environment

  • SRM 6.0+

Credentials required to add the array

Ensure you have the following information:

IP address or hostname for the array control station.

  • SMI-S username. The default is admin
  • SMI-S password. The default is #1password
  • API username. The default is admin
  • API password. The default is #1password
  • Protocol. The default is HTTPS

Enable the provider

How to view the Control Station IP address if you have EMC Unisphere installed on a separate server

  1. Log into the application, view the Dashboard, and then choose your Celerra device to view the Control Station IP address.

Refer to your array administrator or your array documentation for additional information on obtaining this information.

More information

The Celerra SMI-S Provider and ECOM (CIMOM) are installed by default when the base NAS software is installed in the directory/celerra/wbem on the control station. The Celerra SMI-S provider, both the CIMMON and the provider do not run by default on the control station for releases 6 and 7. This section will cover enabling ECOM and Celerra SMI-S provider on the control station.

Enable ECOM and the Celerra SMI-S provider (Release 6)

Release 6 offers two different methods for enabling ECOM and the Celerra SMI-S provider. For Release 6, use only one of the following two methods for enabling ECOM and your SMI-S provider:

Permanently enabled method

  1. To permanently enable and manage the daemon that monitors all running processes, uncomment the following lines in the nas_mcd.cfg file by removing the # at the beginning of each line:

    # daemon "cim server"

    # executable "/celerra/wbem/bin/start_cim_server"
    # optional no
    # autorestart yes
    # cmdline "/celerra/wbem"
    # daemon "cim conf"
    # executable "/nas/sbin/dirsync"
    # optional no
    # autorestart yes
    # cmdline "-all /celerra/wbem/conf//nas/site/ecom_config 360"
    # daemon "SMISPlugin Log Trimmer"
    # executable "/nas/sbin/log_trimmer"
    # optional no
    # autorestart yes
    # ioaccess no
    # cmdline "-n /nas/log/smis/SMISPlugin.log 1000 l 2 h t 4 y "
    # daemon "SMIS securitylog.txt Log Trimmer"
    #
    #
    # 4 y " executable optional autorestart ioaccess cmdline "/nas/sbin/log_trimmer" no yes no"-n /nas/log/smis/securitylog.txt 1000 l 2 h t
    # daemon "SMIS HTTP_trace.log Log Trimmer"
    #
    #
    # 4 y " executable optional autorestart ioaccess cmdline "/nas/sbin/log_trimmer" no yes no "-n /nas/log/smis/HTTP_trace.log 1000 l 2 h t
    # daemon "SMIS cimomlog.txt Log Trimmer"
    # executable "/nas/sbin/log_trimmer"
    # optional no
    # autorestart yes
    # ioaccess no
    # cmdline "-n /nas/log/smis/cimomlog.txt 1000 l 2 h t 4 y "

  2. Restart the NAS services using the following commands:

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/nas stop

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/nas start

Non-persisted method

Run the following script (not persisted after Control Station restart)

/celerra/wbem/start_cim_server to start ECOM
/celerra/wbem/stop_cim_server to stop ECOM

Enable ECOM and the Celerra SMI-S provider (Release 7)

Execute the following script:

/celerra/wbem/start_cim_server
