Monitor hardware health for SRM

Beginning with SolarWinds Orion Storage Resource Monitor 6.4, you can get immediate insight into hardware issues in your storage environment. Monitoring hardware health on storage arrays gives you access to the status and values of any onboard sensors. In addition to displaying this data on the Hardware Health page for the array, you can set thresholds to use in monitoring and alerts.

Hardware health data is collected when the storage array is polled for statistics/performance data. By default this is every 15 minutes, although this can be amended for individual devices.

SRM Hardware Health metrics

The hardware health metrics available for monitoring an array depend on the vendor and model.

This table assumes that the latest firmware is installed on the array. Status monitoring may vary on older versions.
The table shows only sensors that provide statuses; some sensors, such as SpCards and Storage Controllers, are present in hardware health but they are only used to aggregate sensors.

For SRM 6.6, hardware health data is available for the following arrays and sensors:

Arrays Sensors

Dell EqualLogic PS Series

Fans (value), Temperature (value), Power Supplies

EMC Symmetrix VMAX / VMAXe / DMX-4

SRM hardware health resources

If you have an array for which hardware health monitoring is enabled, the Hardware Health Overview resource is available. In addition, a hardware health tab is available to display the Hardware Details, Current Hardware Health, and Hardware Health resources.

Hardware Health Overview Shows the number of storage arrays and nodes that have hardware health monitoring enabled, by status. Click on the icon to list the devices with this status.
Hardware Details Shows hardware details for the selected array.
Current Hardware Health

Shows the sensors enabled for the selected array, showing status and current value.

Click Manage Sensors to open the Enable hardware health monitoring for SRM page.

Hardware Health Shows a performance chart for each fan, power supply, and temperature sensor over a selected period.
