New features and improvements

Read this section for descriptions of the new features and improvements SRM offers in this release, and compare this release with previous releases of SRM.

Support for EMC XtremIO array

Support added for the EMC XtremIO storage array, monitored through the REST API via the XtremIO Management server.

Support for Pure Storage array

Support added for the Pure Storage array, monitored through a combination of onboard SMI-S Provider and REST API on the array.

Other improvements

  • All 6.2 and 6.2.1 fixes and associated hotfixes
  • Additional view resources including:
    • Array Polling Details
    • LUN Masking
    • Custom Properties for Storage Arrays, FileShares, LUNs, Pools, StorageProviders, Volumes and VServers
  • TLS compatibility with Orion Core Products

Brand new look and feel

The first thing you’ll notice about this release is that the SolarWinds Orion Platform user interface is more modern-looking. The main menu bar on the top of  every page has been reorganized to make navigation faster and easier, and to save space so there’s more room for data. We've also condensed the Notifications into a drop-down located in the upper-right corner.

ServiceNow integration

You can now integrate SolarWinds Orion Platform products with the ServiceNow, Inc. incident management system. With this integration you can:

  • Automatically create incidents in ServiceNow based on alerts that trigger in your SolarWinds Orion products

  • Synchronize the acknowledgement of SolarWinds alerts and ServiceNow incidents.

  • Update, close, and reopen ServiceNow incidents.

New customer installation

For information about installing SRM see Installing SolarWinds Storage Resource Monitor in the SRM Installation Guide.

Before you upgrade!

Use the following resources for planning and upgrading:

  • Internal MDisks are now monitored for IBM SVC and are licensed based on physical disk count. For example, if you have three external MDisks, five internal MDisks, and ten physical disks, the SRM Profiler Module will count thirteen against your license which is three external MDisks + ten physical disks.
  • When upgrading to SRM 6.3 on the same server with DPA installed, the DPAO piece causes issues with alerting
  • SRM 6.3 no longer supports OS Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, 2008, 2008 SP2, and 2008 R2 without SP1.
  • If you have written your own code, such as changing SolarWinds .css files or adding .js files, it may be overwritten with the upgrade. You can learn more about custom code in this article.
  • If you have edited resource properties, the All Groups resource may be empty after upgrading to SRM 6.3. This is a known issue for Orion Platform 2016.1. See Known Issues for work-around.
  • When upgrading to SRM 6.3, using the group by feature for custom properties may return no results, and the data loading may hang or not complete. All regular functionality is unaffected by the issue. This is a known issue for Orion Platform 2016.1. See Known Issues for work-around.
  • Always upgrade NPM first if you have it installed. NPM includes platform features to support all Orion products.
  • If you have SAM without NPM, upgrade SAM first. SAM includes platform features to support all Orion products.
  • Always use the Product Upgrade Advisor to build your upgrade path.
