Overview

This articles provides a description of resource capacities for SRM users who are monioting the EMC XtremIO storage array.

Environment

  • SRM 6.3

Detail

Raw Disk Capacity Summary & Array Raw Disk Capacity Summary
Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
Storage Array Raw Capacity The total physical disk capacity of the storage array. The sum of physical size of all SSDs in the XtremIO storage array.
Storage Array Total Used Capacity (Used) The assigned physical capacity of the storage array for RAID Groups or storage pools. It includes overhead for creating RAID Groups or storage pools. The sum of physical size of all SSDs in the XtremIO storage array.
Storage Array Total Free Capacity (Remaining) The unassigned physical capacity of the storage array. For XtremIO storage array it is always zero. This is because the there are no unassigned physical disks on this storage array.
Storage Array Spare The total physical capacity of all spare disks in the storage array. For XtremIO storage array it is always zero.
There are no dedicated spare disks on the XtremIO storage array and spare capacity is not applicable for it.

Usable Capacity Summary & Array Usable Capacity Summary

Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
Storage Array Total Usable Capacity The total usable capacity on the array.
It is calculated as the sum of usable capacity of all storage pools from which LUNs can be created. For arrays where pools are created off RAID groups, total usable capacity excludes the RAID overhead.  It may include the metadata space used by LUN snapshots and in some cases the metadata space required for storage array administration.

The total user data space on all the SSDs in the XtremIO storage array. This is the Usable “Physical Capacity” shown in the XtremIO management console.
Storage Array Used The amount of usable capacity allocated for LUNs or for metadata on the storage array. The amount of user data SSD space in use in the XtremIO storage array.
Storage Array Remaining The amount of free usable space available for creating more LUNs or for metadata on this storage array. The amount of user data SSD space which is free on the XtremIO storage array. It is calculated as (Total Usable Capacity - Used).

Thin Storage Pools
Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
Storage Pool Total Size The total usable capacity of the storage pool. This capacity can be used for creating LUNs or for metadata. XtremIO storage array has no pools defined in the array architecture. The 'Virtual Pool' represents the overall usable capacity of the array itself. It is the total user data space on all the SSDs in the XtremIO storage array. This is the Usable “Physical Capacity” shown in the XtremIO management console.
Storage Pool Provisioned Capacity The amount of usable capacity consumed by all LUNs allocated from this pool. It may include the capacity reserved (not yet in use) for the LUNs if the array supports reservation. The amount of user data SSD space in use in the XtremIO storage array
Storage Pool Subscribed Capacity The total of host reported capacity of all LUNs subscribed from this pool.  The total of host reported capacity of all LUNs (excludes snapshots) on the XtremIO storage array after the data reduction. Data reduction is the savings in space due to de-duplication and compression of data.
Storage Pool Over-Subscribed Capacity The amount of subscribed capacity of LUNs which exceeds the total size of the pool. It is calculated as ( |Total Size – Subscribed Capacity|).  The amount of subscribed capacity of all LUNs (excludes snapshots) after data reduction which exceeds the total usable capacity of the XtremIO storage array. Data reduction is the savings in space due to de-duplication and compression of data.

Thick Storage Pools (Not Applicable for XtremIO storage array)
Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
Storage Pool Total Size The total usable capacity of the storage pool. This capacity can be used for creating LUNs or for metadata. Not Applicable for XtremIO storage array.

Storage Pool

Provisioned Capacity The amount of usable capacity consumed by all LUNs allocated from this pool. It may include the capacity reserved (not yet in use) for the LUNs if the array supports reservation. Not Applicable for XtremIO storage array.

Usable Capacity Summary - Pool bar chart
Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
Storage Pool Total

The total usable capacity of the storage pool.

Storage Pool Used The amount of usable capacity allocated for LUNs or for metadata from this pool. For XtremIO storage array, it is the same as provisioned capacity. It is the amount of user data SSD space in use in the XtremIO storage array.
Storage Pool Remaining The amount free usable space available from this pool for creating more LUNs or can be used for the metadata. The amount of user data SSD space which is free. It is calculated as (Total - Used)

Thin LUNs
Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
LUN Total Size The host reported size of the LUN.  The host reported size of the LUN.
Provisioned Size The amount of space currently reserved for this LUN on this storage array. The total user data space written to the Volume Snapshot Group before deduplication and compression. This is the logical space, not the actual physical space.
File System Used Capacity The sum of used capacity of server volumes which are created on this LUN and are monitored in SRM.  The server volumes must be manually or automatically mapped to the LUN for this to be reported. The sum of used capacity of server volumes which are created on this LUN and are monitored in SRM.  The server volumes must be manually or automatically mapped to the LUN for this to be reported.

LUN Details
Entity Label General Description EMC XtremIO Specific Description
LUN
Consumed Capacity
The amount of space currently reserved for this LUN on this storage array. The same as the Provisioned Size. It is the total user data space written to the Volume Snapshot Group before deduplication and compression. This is the logical space, not the actual physical space.
