SVC Performance Metrics are Reporting Incorrect Values

Table of contents
No headers

Issue:

When viewing the “Average Data Transfer Latency” graph in Storage Manager, the values are too low. The IOPS per second are reporting too high.

Cause:

The report “Node IO Performance by Node” in Storage Manager and “Node Details Report” from IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center are referring to different performance metrics.

Example:

Storage Manager - Node IO Performance By Node

  • Read IOs - Number of messages or bulk data received
  • Write IOs - Number of messages or bulk data sent
  • Total IOs - Number of messages or bulk data received + Number of messages or bulk data sent
  • Read IOs/sec, Write IOs/sec, and Total IOs/sec - are their corresponding per second calculated value.

IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center - Node Details Report

  • Overall Read I/O Rate (ops/s) - The average number of read operations per second. This value includes both sequential and nonsequential read operations.
  • Overall Write I/O Rate (ops/s) - The average number of write operations per second. This value includes both sequential and nonsequential write operations.
  • Total Overall I/O Rate (ops/s) - The average number of read operations and write operations per second. This value includes both sequential and nonsequential operations.

Resolution:

Storage Manager does not have an equivalent report to Node Details Report of IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center, yet we do have IO operation report for vDisk and mDisk.
