Key scenarios when SRM Profiler and SRM are integrated

This section discusses the possible scenarios for SRM Profiler and SRM when they are integrated.

SRM on startup

SRM performs the following tasks on startup:

  1. SRM retrieves licensing information from SRM Profiler. This information is kept in SRM license cache.
  2. SRM retrieves a list of licensed arrays for both SRM and SRM Profiler. This information is kept in SRM license cache.

The license cache is used by SRM to perform license checks when adding or removing arrays.

Add an array to SRM

When an array is added to SRM, a check is performed to verify whether or not the array is being monitored in SRM Profiler. This is done by a validation process to SRM license cache.

  • If the array is licensed in SRM Profiler, then SRM adds the array to its inventory.
  • If the array is not licensed in SRM Profiler, a calculation is performed by SRM to verify whether or not adding the array will exceed the total licensed disk count.
  • If the total license disk count is not exceeded, SRM adds the array, updates the license cache for SRM and sends notification to SRM Profiler about the inventory change.
  • If the total license disk count is exceeded, the user will receive a warning message and the array will not be added.
