Authentication between SRM and SRM Profiler

Updated: June 16, 2017

When SRM Profiler and SRM are integrated, SRM generates a hidden service account username and password and passes this information to SRM Profiler. SRM Profiler also generates a hidden service account username and password passing this to SRM. Once integration is complete, all requests to SRM and SRM Profiler are authenticated based on the service account information. Information transferred between SRM and SRM Profiler is encrypted and passed via HTTPS over TCP port 8443.

You can change the default port of 8443 to a different port.

When integrated, SRM Profiler is the primary owner for holding license keys and is responsible for handling any license related queries.

When integrated, the products will try to sync every 5 minutes. The following describes what happens when SRM and SRM Profiler cannot sync.

When SRM Profiler goes offline, the following happens:

  • SRM continues connection attempts to SRM Profiler until connectivity is re established
  • SRM will not add any arrays when SRM Profiler is unreachable
  • If SRM Profiler is unreachable for more than 24 hours, SRM will mark all arrays as unlicensed and polling will stop

When SRM goes offline the following happens:

  • SRM Profiler continues working
  • SRM Profiler will use the last retrieved license validation from SRM for 30 days
  • After 30 days the last retrieved license validation from SRM is discarded and SRM Profiler reclaims the licenses from SRM and continues working
  • SRM Profiler continues connection attempts to SRM until connectivity is re established. When SRM goes offline, if desired, you can reclaim the licenses from SRM immediately. For more information on reclaiming the license from SRM, see Reclaim your license.
