Overview

This article describes an issue where the Remote Shares File Analysis job completes earlier than expected. For example, the job processes remote shares on the remote subsystems which are GB or TB in file size.

Environment

  • STM 5.7
  • STM 6.1

Cause

There are incorrect permissions in the File Analysis remote scan.

Resolution

  1. Establish a remote desktop connection to the STM agent that is responsible for the job.
  2. Open Windows Explorer.
  3. Enter \\[the IP address or the name of the remote share]\c$ in the address field.
  4. If Windows Explorer can connect to the remote share, use the same credentials for the File Analysis remote scan setting.

Perform the following steps if the issue persists or if Windows Explorer cannot connect to the remote share.

  1. Open Run and enter services.msc.
  2. Right-click the SolarWinds Agent Storage Manager Agent entry, go to Properties > Log on as tab, and then use a specific account that can connect to the remote share.
  3. Restart the File Analysis job after 5 minutes.
  4. Go to Quick Reports > File Analysis Stats report, and then select In Progress and Queued.

The In Progress file process count should be incrementing.
