How EMC VMAX calculates total IOs

Table of contents

Overview

This article provides information on how EMC VMAX calculates the total IOs.

Formula for calculating total IO's for the entire storage system:

TotalIO = ∑ TotalIOs of Adaptors(FE + BE + SRDF)

Formula for calculating total IO's for the LUN:

TotalIO’s = ReadIOs + WriteIOs + EMCSequentialReadIOs + EMCSequentialWriteIOs

Note:  The only caveat about this is that EMCSequentialWriteIOs is only available on a per volume basis. It is not available for the whole array. The CIM class it belongs to is Symm_StorageVolume and not Symm_StorageSystem.
