Unexpected error occurred. The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel

Overview

After upgrading to SAM 6.2.4 or later, the HTTP User Experience Monitors OR HTTPS monitors, which were previously working, fail with the following error:
Unexpected error occurred. The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.

Environment

SAM 6.2.4

Cause 

This error appears when all of the following occur:

  • At least one certificate in the chain on the problematic server is signed with SHA-512
  • The problematic server and the SAM server use TLS 1.2 to communicate
  • The signature algorithm SHA-512 is disabled on the server where SAM is installed

Resolution

Perform any one of the following options:
