Unable to log in to the AppInsight for SQL template

Overview

When you deploy AppInsight for SQL to a server using WMI as the node polling method, the monitor displays as Unknown and errors appear in the SQL server logs.

For example:

LOGIN FAILED FOR USER XX\XXXXXXX.

REASON: ATTEMPTING TO USE AN NT ACCOUNT NAME WITH SQL SERVER AUTHENTICATION.

[CLIENT: XX.X.X.XXX]

Environment

All SAM versions

Cause

The template is set to inherit credentials from the node, but the user connecting to the node does not have login credentials to the SQL database server.

Resolution

You cannot edit login credentials in the Appinsight for SQL template. You can only edit user credentials on the Edit page once you install the application. Click Edit Application and edit the credential.

See Appinsight for SQL requirements and permissions for related information.

See the SolarWinds AppInsight Application Guide for more information about setting up AppInsight for SQL.
