When you compare the CPU % utilization values between the SolarWinds Real Time Process Explorer (RTPE) and the top utility in Linux, the values are different. The values shown in top may be over 100%.
The RTPE takes the number of CPU cores into account when calculating the values, like running top in Solaris mode. The percent utilization is divided by the number of cores to normalize the values.
For example, if one core of a 2 core computer is at 100% utilization and the second core is at 25%, the RTPE reports the CPU% utilization as 62% because it divided 125% by the 2 cores. However, top reports 125%.
You can turn off IRIX mode (press SHIFT+I when using top) to see values like the ones reported in the RTPE.
