SSL Certificate Expiration Date Monitor error: Authentication failed

Overview

This article addresses the following error that appears on the SSL Certificate Expiration Date Monitor:

Authentication failed! Closing the connection... Exception message: A call to SSPI failed, see inner exception.
The message received was unexpected or badly formatted
Exception message is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Environment

SAM 6.X

Cause 

This occurs when the common name on the certificate does not match the website adddress or FQD of the node the monitor is assigned to. 

Resolution

Perform either of the following:

  • Change the name of the node to match the common name.
  • Re-issue the certificate with a matching common name.
