Overview

The Asset Inventory view on the Node Details page in the Orion Web Console displays a variety of data including system, hardware, memory, network interfaces, applications, custom assets, and logical volumes. This article provides details about how the Orion Platform collects data for resources in the Asset Inventory view.

Environment

  • SAM 6.1 or later

Detail

The Asset Inventory dashboard (also called a "sub-view") lets you maintain a current and detailed inventory of your environment's hardware and software. Asset Inventory data collection is automatically enabled during the Network Sonar Discovery and/or the upgrade process.

Automatic inventory data collection benefits those interested in tracking asset depreciation, gathering information for insurance purposes, or managing and maintaining your infrastructure. To display this dashboard, see Enable and disable the Asset Inventory dashboard.

The Asset Inventory sub-view displays a variety of data for a node, including system, hardware, memory, network interfaces, applications, custom assets, logical volumes, and more. Details displayed depend on the polling method used to collect data from the node.

Note the following details about Asset Inventory data:

  • If expected asset data does not appear for a node to which an Orion agent was deployed, confirm that the agent is configured properly.
  • Internet Information Services (IIS) use drivers and other “non-software” records that may result in duplicate records being displayed in the Orion Web Console and saved to the Orion SQL database.
  • WMI polls many WMI classes and registers for asset data. For the Software Inventory resource, SAM polls information from the following registry branches:
    • SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    • SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
  • If multiple registry keys share the same display name, filter by display name, version, and related Windows updates so only records for a specific asset appear in the Software Inventory resource and are saved in the Orion SQL database. See Filter nodes in resources using SQL queries for SAM and https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(v=vs.85).aspx.
