You can now use groups to assign application templates to nodes, which reduces the time it takes you to set up and manage server and application monitoring. If you automate discovery and assign application templates to dynamic groups,  you ensure that dynamically created server instances are monitored as soon as they join a group.

For example, when you assign the Windows Server 2003 - 2012 Services and Counters template to a group of Windows servers, each member of the group inherits the application template. If you use dynamic groups, each time a Windows server comes online, Orion automatically assigns the server to the group, applies the 2003 - 2012 Services and Counters template, and starts monitoring the server.

For more information about groups, see Create Groups.

AppInsight applications cannot be assigned to groups. Depending on the size of the application, assigning an application to a group can take a few minutes.

After you have created a group and assigned members, on the Manage Application Monitor Templates, select a template, and click Assign to Group.
