Fixed issues

This hotfix contains SAM 6.3 Hotfix 1 and resolves the following issues:

  • SOAP Monitor
  • HTTPS monitor
  • Orion reporting error for AppInsight for Exchange

The filename is SolarWinds-SAM-v6.3-Hotfix2.exe.

SOAP monitor error

This hotfix addresses an issue where the SOAP monitor fails because it cannot negotiate TLS 1.0 connection.

This can be identified by the following error message visible in the SAM logs:

System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.
---> System.IO.IOException: The handshake failed due to an unexpected packet format.

You may receive this error after installing SAM 6.2.4 or SAM 6.3.

HTTPS monitor error

This hotfix addresses an issue where the HTTPS monitor fails because it cannot verify the server certificate CommonName.

This can be identified by the following error message visible in the SAM logs:

System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.
---> System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure

You may receive this error after installing SAM 6.3.

HTTPS monitor error

This hotfix addresses an issue with a very high CPU usage of SolarWinds JobEngine worker process.

This can be identified by the following error message visible in the SAM logs:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
    at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.Insert(TKey key, TValue value, Boolean add)
    at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.set_Item(TKey key, TValue value)
    at SolarWinds.APM.Common.Helpers.CacheHelper`2.Get(TKey key)

You may receive this error after installing SAM 6.3 or SAM 6.3 Hotfix 1.

Orion Reporting error

This hotfix addresses an issue generating a custom report for AppInsight for Exchange. Even if the report has data to display, the report may display the message: "Reports show no activity to report".

You may receive this error after installing SAM 6.2.4 or SAM 6.3.

Environment

Installation instructions

Install this standalone hotfix on the main poller, on any additional pollers, and web servers.

  1. Log in to the server hosting your SolarWinds Orion installation as an administrator.
  2. Run the Orion Service Manager, click Shutdown Everything, and close the Orion Service Manager.
  3. Run the standalone hotfix SolarWinds-SAM-v6.3-Hotfix2.exe, and follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

After applying this fix, the issues outlined in the Fixed Issues description should no longer occur.

Install hotfix with SolarWinds HA

Use these intructions to install the hotfix/buddy drop with SolarWinds HA.

Important: The HA pool must be disabled to begin installation. If you install prior to disabling, the pool is automatically disabled.

  1. In the Orion Web Console, click Settings > All Settings > High Availability Deployment Summary.
  2. Select the pool you want to disable.
  3. Toggle High Availability to Off.
  4. Install the hotfix/buddy drop on the primary server in the pool.
  5. Install the hotfix/buddy drop on the secondary server in the pool.
  6. In the Orion Web Console, click Settings > All Settings > High Availability Deployment Summary.
  7. Select the pool you want to enable and toggle High Availability to On.

The Orion Web Console verifies all SolarWinds product versions match across the HA pair before enabling.     If you receive errors, check your product versions.

You may need to recreate the HA pool. For details, see Set up an HA pool.

Uninstallation Instructions

  1. Log in to the server hosting your SolarWinds Orion installation as an administrator.
  2. Run the Orion Service Manager, click Shutdown Everything, and close the Orion Service Manager.
  3. Navigate to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > View installed updates.
  4. Select "Update for SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor v6.3 (Hotfix2)", click Uninstall, and complete the uninstallation wizard.
