Overview

The following error appears when a testing component within the Oracle Database template:

Oracle Driver provider missing

Environment

All SAM versions

Cause

The Oracle client was not installed properly and there were some missing dll files.

Incorrect component settings in Oracle Driver Type: Oracle Data Provider for .NET as it should be Oracle Driver Type: Microsoft.NET Data Provider.

Resolution

  1. Copy and run the client installer SAM server in this location c:\Program Files(x86)\Solarwinds\Orion\APM\OracleClient\
  2. Make sure that it has the following 5 files on the same path:
    BASIC_LITE_README
    msvcr71.dll
    oci.dll
    orannzsbb10.dll
    oraociicus10.dll
  3. Edit each component within the Oracle Database template to show the correct details for the following:
  • Destination Point Type: Service Name
  • Destination Point Name: sales.us.example.com

Determine the name or SID of the database by referring to the tnsnames.ora Oracle configuration file.

Look for something like the following:
tnsnames.ora:

ORA11 = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL =
TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_
NAME = sales.us.example.com) ))
 The 'Destination Point Name' should reflect the current Service Name (ex. SERVICE_
NAME = sales.us.example.com)

  • Oracle Driver Type: Microsoft.NET Data Provider
