Enabling performance counters for AppInsight for IIS in SAM 6.3 with Windows Server 2016

Updated 7-25-2016

Overview

Windows Server 2016 does not include ASP.NET. AppInsight for IIS requires the ASP.NET package for performance counters in SAM. At install, AppInsight for IIS performance counters are disabled if your server has Windows Server 2016 installed without ASP.NET. This article walks through enabling the performance counters.

Environment

  • SAM 6.3
  • Windows Server 2016

Cause

Windows Server 2016 does not include the ASP.NET package by default. The AppInsight for IIS performance counters will be disabled until this package is installed.

Resolution

Install the ASP.NET package

Please see the Windows Server vendor site for locating and installing the required ASP.NET package. After installing the package, you can enable the performance counters.

Enable the performance counters

  1. On the web console, click Settings > All Settings > SAM Settings > Manage Application Monitors.
  2. Locate the ASP.NET State Service application component.
  3. Edit and enable the component.
  4. Save changes.
