Windows credentials are not showing in drop down box after migration

Overview

After migration of NPM/SAM, you can run into an issue where the drop down box for WMI credentials do not show any of the credentials. However, if you go to the Manage Windows Credentials section, all of the credentials will show up.  In addition to the credentials not showing up, you will also find that you cannot delete any of the Windows credentials within the Windows Credentials Settings page. Finally, if you add a new credential in, it will still not show up in the list.

Environment

  • All SAM versions
  • Any post migrated Orion installation that uses Windows credentials for WMI.

Cause

The credentials are encrypted within the database. When the migration took place, the Orion Server certificate was not brought over.  As such, it could no longer decode the credentials.

Resolution

  1. Go back to your old server and export the Orion Server certificate.
  2. Import the certificate into the new Orion server.
