Windows Script monitor is blocked when running VBScript on agent machines

Updated May 23, 2017

Overview

An Access Denied error is displayed when testing or polling a Windows Script monitor with VBScript on a Windows agent.

Environment

SAM 6.2 and later

Cause

The error occurs because of security policies in the antivirus program. In McAfee, there is a security policy that blocks the execution of these scripts from the TEMP directory. This policy is under Access Protection Policies > Anti-spyware Maximum Protection.

Other vendors may have similar policies which can affect the execution of scripts.

Resolution

As a workaround, remove the servers, where the scripts are executed, from the policy. If this is not possible, you may look into other methods of gathering information, such as PowerShell scripting.
