VMware Performance Counters always return zero when polled by SAM

Overview

When polling VMware Performance Counters with SAM they always poll a value of zero, despite the Performance Counters returning values when polled locally.

Environment

  • All SAM versions
  • vCenter 5.5 + installed on Windows Server

Cause 

A registry entry on the Windows vCenter which disables Remote Access to view Performance Counters based on vmWare objects.

Resolution

To resolve this issue please implement the changes in the following vmWare KB:

Enable Remote Access to View Performance Counters on Connection Servers
