Unexpected error occurred. Exception: Unknown or unsupported probe type

Overview

One or more components fail and an error similar to the following is displayed when applying a template for monitoring:

Unexpected error occurred. Exception: Unknown or unsupported probe type SolarWinds.APM.Probes.SmtpProbe

Environment

SAM 6.3 or later

Cause 

The node applied to the template is using a Linux agent which does not support all of the components that SAM can monitor. See the Linux Agent supported components article for more information.

Resolution

  1. Edit the application with the failing component(s).
  2. Expand the Advanced section.
  3. Set the Preferred Polling Method to Agentless.
    Note: You may need to click OVERRIDE TEMPLATE to be able to change this.
  4. Save the changes.
