For Server & Application Monitor (SAM) 6.4 and later, the default location for SAM log files on the Orion server is c:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\APM.

Note the following details:

  • All log files are in text file format.
  • SAM log files on older target machines may be stored in c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Logs\APM
  • The original name of SolarWinds SAM was APM so you may still see references to "APM" in SAM log files and database elements.
  • If you don't see the ProgramData folder in Windows Explorer, make sure the Hidden items option is enabled.

Here are locations for some specific log files.

  • Orion Module Engine service – SAM Plugin:
    c:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\APM\APM.BusinessLayer.log
  • Job Engine worker log files for SAM monitoring templates (also called "probes"):
    c:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\APM\SolarWinds.APM.Probes_[xyz].log
(where xyz is replaced by the PID of the worker process)
  • Debug log files for individual applications, where XY represents the Application ID:
    c:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\APM\ApplicationLogs\AppIdXY\
  • Application dependency logs:
    C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\ADM\

The following logs are related to cloud monitoring in SAM 6.4 or later:

  • Business Layer logs:
    C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\CloudMonitoring
  • Polling job logs (search for “cloud” in the log files):
    C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\VIM\Jobs
  • Collector logs (search for “cloud” in the log files):
    C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Collector\Logs
