Overview

The SQL Monitor generates authentication errors in the SQL Server event log. This issue may occur if you are using SQL User Experience monitors or any monitor requesting access to the SQL server.

You may experience this problem if you are using SQL User Experience monitors (or any monitor asking for access to the Orion database server running Microsoft SQL Server.

Environment

  • All SAM versions running an SQL User Experience Monitor
  • Mixed authentication environment (instead of SQL only)

Cause

The SQL User Experience Monitor is not configured to use Windows Authentication. Instead, the monitor uses the assigned credentials as an SQL credential.

Resolution

  1. Go to the targeted application monitor.
  2. Click Edit Application Monitor.
  3. Expand the targeted SQL User Experience Monitor component.
  4. Make sure that the Ensure that the Used Windows Authentication First, then SQL Authentication option is selected.
  5. Save your changes.
