SAM Application Edit page error when applying a component to an SNMP-polled node

Updated May 30, 2017

The following error is displayed by a component on the SAM Application Edit page when applied to an SNMP-polled node:

Object Reference not set to an Instance of an Object

The following messages are shown in the APMBusinessLayer.log file:

[40] WARN   SolarWinds.APM.Data.DALs.ApmNodeDAL - NodeID:xx no
NodeSetting:ROSNMPCredentialID which is used to lookup SnmpCredentialsV3
[40] ERROR  SolarWinds.APM.Common.MessageUtilities - Exception caught in method
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

  • SAM 6.3
  • SAM 6.4

This issue is due to a bug in storing SNMP credentials in the database.

SolarWinds recommends that you upgrade to SAM 6.4 and apply the latest hotfix available in the SolarWinds Customer Portal. Otherwise, perform the following workaround:

  1. Go to the node which the application is assigned to.
  2. Edit the node.
  3. Specify the SNMP credentials and save.
You are now able to edit the application.
