Perfmon.exe shows a lower number than SAM

Overview

The SAM counter for the Exchange Mailbox Attendant shows incorrect processor utilization. In other words,  Perfmon.exe shows a lower number than SAM does.

Environment

Cause

This is normal behavior. Perfmon.exe polls every second, where SAM takes an average of Perfmon's readings over a set period of time.

Resolution

Occasionally, the CPU may spike. It is possible that SAM may be polling at this time, causing an event to be written into the history. However, based on Performance Monitor testing, processor time is 0 for approximately 98% of the time. This indicates the processor is in a healthy state.
