New distribution list alert email fails to send to recipients

Overview

This article outlines the default setting within Exchange 2007/2010 for newly created distribution lists, that requires sender authentication to be set to false, before you can use the new group within SAM for alerting.

Environment

  • All SAM versions
  • MS Exchange 2007 and 2010

Steps

From the EMS, this can be changed via this line:
Set-DistributionGroup -NewlyCreatedDistro -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $false
 
or from the Distribution Group properties > Mail Flow Settings tab, message delivery restrictions > deselect Require All Senders > Apply.
