Linux script monitors cause high CPU usage in SAM 6.3

Overview

The CPU load increases for Job Engine 2 workers when executing Linux scripts in SAM 6.3.

Environment

  • SAM
    • 6.3
    • 6.4
  • Linux script component monitors 

Cause 

A problematic key exchange order is used in the SSH connection.

Resolution

 

To resolve this issue please upgrade to SAM 6.4. If the issue is still occurring make the following configuration file changes.

 

Please note that the below fix only applies to SAM 6.4. If the below configuration file change is made in SAM 6.3 it will break the Linux/Unix Script Monitor functionality:

  1. Navigate to: 
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\APM

  2. Open the following file in Notepad: 
    SolarWinds.APM.Probes.dll.config
  3. Change the following line:
    <LinuxScriptSettings PromptWait="2" ColumnCount="200" TemporaryScriptFileNamePrefix="APM_" KeyExchangeList="diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha256,diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha1,diffie-hellman-group1-sha1,diffie-hellman-group14-sha1" />

    TO

    <LinuxScriptSettings PromptWait="2" ColumnCount="200" TemporaryScriptFileNamePrefix="APM_" KeyExchangeList="diffie-hellman-group1-sha1,diffie-hellman-group14-sha1" />
