How to Filter Out Indexes by Size within the Appinsight For SQL Template

Table of contents

Updated November 7, 2017

Overview

This article discusses how to filter out indexes by size within the AppInsight for SQL Template to avoid small indexes from being flagged as critical or warning. Indexes with only a few pages are likely to be fragmented. There is nothing you can do about it, and there is no real performance impact due to their small size.

Environment

  • SAM 6.2 and later

Steps

  1. Go to your Application Details page for the Appinsight template.
  2. Edit the application monitor.
  3. Expand the component 'Top Indexes to Retrieve'.
  4. Edit the threshold 'Minimum Size (KB) of Indexes to Retrieve' .

  5. Apply a value suitable to your environment.

This will now filter out any indexes smaller than the specified size from being reported or alerted on by Appinsight for SQL Template.
