Hide Databases from Appinsight for SQL via the All Databases widget

Updated July 27, 2018

This article discusses a workaround to hide databases from the AppInsight for SQL via the All Databases widget.

Note: This does not unmanage the database. This workaround hides the database from being shown, but the Orion Platform will still alert on it.  To prevent the database from triggering alerts, make sure you unmanage the database on the Database Details page's Management widget before proceeding.

  • SAM 6.2+

Step 1:

  1. Log into the Orion Web Console.
  2. Navigate to the AppInsight for SQL Details page for your SQL instance.
  3. In the URL of the browser, the last couple of digits refers to the applicationID.

Example: http://Solarwinds/Orion/APM/SqlBlack...NetObject=ABSA:168

  1. Take note of this applicationID.

Step 2:

  1. Log into the Orion server.
  2. Open Database Manager
  3. Click Add Default Server
  4. Expand the Orion Database
  5. Locate the table 'APM_SqlBbDatabase'
  6. Run the following query:
SELECT TOP 1000 * FROM [dbo].[APM_SqlBbDatabase] where applicationId = 168
  1. Please update the ApplicationID to match your Application ID which you gathered from Step 1.
  2. Click Enable table editing above the Query text box.
  3. Uncheck the box in the column 'visible' to hide the database from this view.

  1. Click 'Enable table editing' again once you're done un-checking all of the Databases which you do not want to appear on the AppInsight for SQL Details Page.
