Error: "Unable to create WSMan listener" or "An HTTPS listener currently exists on port 5986"

 

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following errors:

  • Unable to create WSMan listener
  • An HTTPS listener currently exists on port 5986

Environment

All SAM versions

Resolution

1. Open the Command Prompt with administrator rights.

2. Enter the following commands depending on your course of action:

  • To view WinRM configuration - winrm get winrm/config
  • To view WinRM HTTPS Listener settings - winrm get winrm/config/listener?Address=*+Transport=HTTPS
  • To check if the server is listening to port 5986 - netstat -an | findstr "5986"
  • To remove WinRM HTTPS Listener settings - winrm delete winrm/config/listener?Address=*+Transport=HTTPS
